OVERVIEW: Here’s a great vintage 21-inch — or 53cm, or MEDIUM — 1985 BRIDGESTONE T-500 touring bike in excellent condition with a custom and bombproof 6x3 indexing drivetrain; bike came to me as a partial bike and was built up the other day by me in much the way it came stock (I’ve been wrenching on bikes for 30+ years, much of that time professionally)FRAME: Frame and fork are circa 1985 and made of Bridgestone’s legendary triple-butted chromoly steel with: Suntour forged dropouts; extra-long-chainstays; braze-ons/mounts for front/rear racks and fenders; and clearance for 40mm+ tires. Absolutely no dents anywhere on frame or fork, just a very few minor cosmetic scuffs/scratches in the silver paint, which still shines up very nicely. Frame measures 21 inches — or 53cm — from center of bb to top of seat post (also measures 21 inches from center of bb to top of seat tube since seat tube does not stick out above top tube). This size frame is often called simply a ‘medium’. Top-tube measures just over 21 inches from center-to-center. Stand over is about 31.25 inches with the current 27x1-1/4 tires mounted.
DRIVETRAIN:
The following components are original: 50-44-28 SR Sakae crankset; Sakae adjustable BB (freshly greased and adjusted by me, spins beautifully); Suntour ARX triple front derailleur; Dia-Compe non-aero brake levers (hoods are about perfect); Dia-Compe cantilever brakes (w/ newish pads); SR Sakae drop bars; high-rise SR Sakae quill stem w/ 60mm extension; SR Sakae seat post; Selle Italia touring saddle.
I added the following components (all are low-mileage specimens from my parts bin): vintage Shimano 105 6-speed triple (or 6x3) downtube shifters (right/rear shifter can shift in index or friction mode; front/left shifter is friction only); vintage Shimano Deore DX long-cage rear derailleur; vintage Shimano 14-28 6-speed freewheel.
WHEELS/TIRES: Wheels are original bombproof 27-inch touring wheels with Araya rims and Sansin hubs (which both spin very smoothly); front rim is 36-hole, rear is 40-hole (!). Both wheels were just trued by me. Tires are brand new zero-mile Continental Ride Tour Extra 27x1-1/4 touring tires (roughly equivalent to about 32c’s in width). Presta tubes are new.
MISC: Bar tape is original, if you can believe it. Housing/cables are either new or low-mileage stuff from my parts bin. Chain is low-mileage KMC chain. I added the vintage-looking bottle cage, as well as the vintage cage pedals to round out the vintage look.
PRICE/SHIPPING: Buy It Now price is 9. Shipping to anywhere in Lower 48 United States is 9 (sorry, no shipping to Alaska or Hawaii) — but if you live near the Seattle Metro area, you can instead pick up for free at my home in Sammamish, which is about a 40-minute drive due east of Seattle.
