    Description

    READ DESCRIPTION CAREFULLY
For auction is a 58cm Masi road bicycle.  This one is somewhat rare as after doing some research it was discovered that the frame was built in Italy, but custom painted in the United States by Jim Allen.  The frame and fork are built from Columbus tubing in proprietary gauges specified by Masi (note the unique tubing decal).  The frame was built sometime between late 1986 and early to mid 1987.  The bike is free of dents, but has cosmetic defects that would be expected in a bike of this age including scratches in the paint, some pitting in the chrome, and mismatched touch-up paint.
The bike is Campagnolo equipped (including rims) with Modolo brakes, 3T (Techno Tubi Torino) bars and stem, and Vittoria tires.  Bottom bracket is Miche.  The bike will ship with two (2) pairs of pedals; the Eroica compliant Miche pedals with toe clips and straps on the bike as well as a set of Look clipless pedals from 1989 that are visible in the last picture.
The matching Silca Imperio frame pump, American Classic water bottle cages, and spare tire are included.
The bike has not been "restored", but has been maintained over time.  My husband put his pedals on it and took it out for a 50k spin.  He reports that the bike rides well, goes straight no handed, and that the shifting and braking works well.
NOTES AND DISCLOSURES: 1) THE EXPANDER/WEDGE AND BOLT IN THE HANDLEBAR STEM ARE NOT ORIGINAL, BUT THE STEM TIGHTENS UP IN THE FORK WITHOUT ISSUES, 2) THE LOCKNUT ON THE HEADSET IS CAMPAGNOLO, BUT NOT ALL OF THE HEADSET PARTS MAY MATCH. THE HEADSET WORKS SMOOTHLY WITHOUT ANY ISSUES 3) THE BOTTOM BRACKET IS MICHE, NOT CAMPAGNOLO, 4) THIS BIKE USES TUBULAR (ALSO KNOWN AS SEW-UPS OR SINGLES) TIRES WHICH MUST BE SECURELY GLUED TO THE RIMS FOR THE BIKE TO BE RIDDEN SAFELY. IT IS THE BUYERS RESPONSIBILITY TO CHECK THE GLUE AND RE-GLUE THE TIRES IF NECESSARY BEFORE RIDING THE BICYCLE;5) THE BRAKE SHOES ARE NOT ORIGINAL MODOLO, I WOULD ASSUME THEY WERE REPLACED MANY TIMES OVER THE LIFETIME OF THIS MACHINE.
